learning organization

A learning organization is a dynamic business environment that encourages and fosters continuous learning in order to compete effectively in a highly competitive 21st century economy. What are the characteristics of a learning organization, and how do these characteristics help managers and employees work together to rise to the challenges they must confront in a rapidly changing business environment?

One challenge to the development of a strong ethics program is to use the elements of the organization discussed in Module 6 to create a culture that supports ethical decision making. All of the elements need to support the behavior you want to create. This requires a holistic view of the systems and how they interact.

In this activity, you will locate and evaluate current ethics programs to provide a foundation for revising an existing ethics program. Considering what you have read in this course, begin investigating an organization’s ethics program by reviewing their website. You should select an organization of interest to you as a place in which you think you might like to work.

For your discussion:

  • Use the EC Library to locate an article about the organization that addresses an issue associated with ethics.
  • Choose the ethics theory most applicable to the issue in the article you chose.
  • As a starting point for your investigation, review the organization’s documents and policies on their website. Many organizations have information on their ethics policies available. Identify current policy statement(s) and describe the current environment created by these policies.
  • Indicate whether the organization has a clear ethics program or if it has only an espoused ethics policy.
  • Identify at least two areas for improvement to create a strong ethical culture, based on the organization’s ethics program.

In responding to your classmates, share recommendations or ideas for helping the organization improve its ethical culture.

Post your primary response on the discussion board. Be sure to review your writing for grammar and spelling before posting. Read any postings already provided by your instructor or fellow students. See the SBT Discussion Rubric for how you will be evaluated for this activity. You are also expected to read the responses to your original posts, and if a classmate raises a question or an issue that warrants a response, you are expected to respond.

Your responses to the discussion questions should relate the assigned readings and viewings to the discussion topic and should not consist only of personal opinion. Your opinion is important to the discussion, but you should add connections to the material to support your views. Without a foundation in the literature, your opinion has little professional value. For example, “Based on Trevino and Nelson’s stance that cultural relativism creates an environment where unethical behavior is justified through the cultural discourse (year, P#), the discussion should center around…”. This type of statement allows you to connect your views to the literature. This is possible even when you are providing personal examples.

Contract analysis scenario one—damages determination: Alfred and Barbara own adjoining farms in Dry County, an area where all agriculture requires irrigation. Alfred bought a well-drilling rig and drilled a 400-foot well from which he drew drinking water. Barbara needed no additional irrigation water, but in January 1985, she asked Alfred on what terms he would drill a well near her house to supply better-tasting drinking water than the county water she has been using for years. Alfred said that because he had never before drilled a well for hire, he would charge Barbara only $10 per foot, about one dollar more than his expected cost. Alfred said that he would drill to a maximum depth of 600 feet, which is the deepest his rig could reach. Barbara said, “OK—as long as you can guarantee completion by June 1, we have a deal.” Alfred agreed, and he asked for $3,500 in advance, with any further payment or refund to be made on completion. Barbara said, “OK,” and she paid Alfred $3,500. Alfred started to drill on May 1. He had reached a depth of 200 feet on May 10 when his drill struck rock and broke, plugging the hole. The accident was unavoidable. It had cost Alfred $12 per foot to drill this 200 feet. Alfred said he would not charge Barbara for drilling the useless hole in the ground, but he would have to start a new well close by and could not promise its completion before July 1. Barbara, annoyed by Alfred’s failure, refused to let him start another well. On June 1, she contracted with Carl to drill a well. Carl agreed to drill to a maximum depth of 350 feet for $4,500, which Barbara also paid in advance, but Carl could not start drilling until October 1. He completed drilling and struck water at 300 feet on October 30. In July, Barbara sued Alfred, seeking to recover her $3,500 paid to Alfred, plus the $4,500 paid to Carl. BBA 3210, Business Law 5 On August 1, Dry County’s dam failed, thus reducing the amount of water available for irrigation. Barbara lost her apple crop worth $15,000. The loss could have been avoided by pumping from Barbara’s well if it had been operational by August 1. Barbara amended her complaint to add the $15,000 loss. In a minimum of a 1,000-word contract analysis, discuss Barbara’s suit against Alfred. What are Barbara’s rights, and what damages, if any, will she recover?

My manager also wants you me to create a document which outlines some basic grammar rules and conventions for punctuation including apostrophes, capitalisation and writing in plain english. This should be a two-sided A4 sheet.

You should use graphics and illustratrions as appropriate in both documents.

You are also to draft an email to staff to accompany the distribution of the material above.

Please note:

  • Document must be well structured and sequenced
  • Document must be proofread and checked for accuracy and clarify of information.
